Tuesday is the Day

Nothing would please me more than to shut this blog down Wednesday morning.  For that to happen, of course, Lindsey Graham will have to lose the Republican primary on Tuesday.  For all those who doubt he will, it is in your hands.

South Carolina conservatives are extremely unhappy with Senator Graham, and with good reason.  Lets just recap some of the things Graham has done to earn our wrath.

Graham was involved in the "gang of 14," helping Democrats stop GOP leadership in the Senate from exercising the so called "nuclear option" to put an end to Democrats’ filibuster of Bush judicial nominations.  Graham and McCain claim their actions resulted in a number of Bush nominees getting up or down votes.  What they fail to mention is that all the nominees would have received up or down votes had Graham and McCain stayed out of it.  They also claim credit for getting Roberts and Alito confirmed, a claim that is patently false and self serving.

Graham and McCain championed comprehensive immigration reform which included amnesty for illegal aliens.  Both Graham and McCain claimed they did not support amnesty but amnesty is precisely what that legislation granted.  When an illegal alien can get a perpetual green card with no requirement to do anything else ever, that is amnesty!  When his constituents balked at the idea, Graham went before the National Council of LaRaza and called us bigots and said we should shut up!  Graham loved to tell stories of legal immigrants and equate them with illegal aliens.  He repeatedly and knowingly lied to the American people and to his constituents about the issue.

Graham has been a consistent media whore since he was elected.  Hardly a weekend goes by that he’s not on some Sunday news program.  Washington insiders joke that he’s run his own grandmother down if she got between him and a TV camera.  It has been clear almost from the start that Graham’s ambition, like his ego, is huge and insatiable.

Graham’s campaign commercials, both on radio and TV, have been a model of how to misrepresent your record.  Using all manner of facts, Graham has given the impression that he is a conservative when nothing could be further from the truth.  When the rubber hits the road, Graham has not been there for this country, preferring instead to advance his own career.  He truly is McCain’s Mini Me!

Tomorrow morning the polls open at 7:00 A.M.  It is up to you and me to remove Graham and send a message to the Republican party that we will not tolerate RINOs.  We will no longer give our support to people who claim to be conservative because of political expedience.  We will not be taken for granted by our own party the way the Democrats have taken blacks for granted for decades.  We will stand up and vote and kick the bastards out and Graham is next in line for that ass kicking.  Let’s do it!!!

Graham Best Democrat in SC

There has been much speculation about a potential challenger to Senator Lindsey Graham. One thing seems certain, any challenge must come in the Republican primary. When asked about a potential challenger in the general election, former SC Democrat Party chair Joe Erwin said he doubted any Democrat would run, saying, “We already have our best Democrat up there in Lindsey.” That’s a pretty devastating comment coming from a Democrat. The fact is, should Graham win the nomination he will almost certainly run unopposed in the general election.

I’ve said here and elsewhere that I am prepared to vote for a Democrat, much as even saying that pains me, rather than vote for Graham. Several Republicans and conservatives have taken me to task for such statements. Many have said they simply could not vote for a Democrat no matter how bad Graham is. Well it appears that no one will be faced with that choice. Unless Republicans and conservatives in South Carolina step up soon and recruit someone to run against Graham in the Republican primary, there will be another six years of this disgraceful RINO representing us in the Senate. Does anyone really want that?

Graham is a liar among his other loathsome traits. How about this obviously false statement: “When South Carolinians are fairly informed about the immigration reform proposal, there is majority support for it.” There is not a chance in the world that Graham actually believes that statement. And if, by some slim chance he really does, he is too stupid to be in the Senate anyway. South Carolinians overwhelmingly reject the immigration bill and Graham has the temerity to say such a thing. Either he’s a fool or he believes South Carolina voters are fools. I’m not sure which is worse.

Lindsey Graham Supports John McCain

Regular readers of this blog know that I am committed to the defeat of Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. After working for his election in 2000, I have been repeatedly disappointed in Graham. He campaigned as a conservative but he has shown himself to be anything but. I’ve come to believe that he has no core convictions. He does what he thinks will move him closer to running for president.

Now Graham is supporting John McCain. As if I needed further proof that Graham is no conservative. Today I received the following email from the McCain campaign.

Dear Friend:

As you evaluate the various candidates for President of the United States, the interview (right) contains facts and insights we all need to know about John McCain.

Conducted just a few days ago, this brief, very candid interview truly is amazing. In just a few short minutes, you will get an unforgettable insight into this unique man. The words are softly spoken but the emotional impact is profound.

The three of us felt so strongly you should see this that we decided to co-sign this personal message. Please take a few moments to view this powerful clip. And you will probably want to share it with your friends. Thank you.

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham
S.C. Speaker of the House Bobby Harrell
S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster

The interview refereed to was a televised interview with John McCain. With the Republican field of candidates as poor as it is, McCain is convincing people that he is actually a conservative and he’s using people like Graham to do it. If we don’t see some real conservatives enter this campaign soon, we run the real risk that McCain will be the nominee.

I once believed that McCain could never get the nominations. My belief was predicated on the notion that there would be actual conservatives running. To date there are no conservatives in the race with the national name recognition and clean record who are capable of winning anything.

Folks, the Republican party is in trouble. Worse, conservatives are in trouble and that means this country is in trouble.

Lindsey Graham is Toast in 2008

I live in South Carolina and four years ago I was an active campaigner for Lindsey Graham. I made phone calls, walked precincts, went to campaign events, put out campaign signs and generally spent my spare time working to elect Lindsey Graham.

There are few things in my life that I regret more.

Lindsey Graham has been characterized by some as courageous because of his willingness to go against his party. I don’t think he’s courageous. I think Graham has his eyes on the White House and everything he does is entirely self serving. He’s been a Senator less than one term and he has more face time than almost anyone in the Senate. That is no coincidence.

Once again Graham has put his political aspirations ahead of party and country. He’s again partnered with RINO John McCain to thwart the president’s plan to clarify article III of the Geneva Convention so that our troops and the CIA can know what is acceptable and what is not when it comes to interrogating enemy prisoners. Graham’s actions follow his participation in the gang of 14 when he helped thwart Bush’s conservative nominations to the federal bench.

When Graham first ran for the Senate in 2002 he ran as a conservative. He has proven himself to be anything but a conservative. I’m not sure Graham has any core convictions. He stands for what he thinks will get his face before the public and get him the most publicity. He knows that anyone running for President needs name recognition and few politicians in Washington have greater name recognition that does Graham. Strange that that should be as such a junior member of the Senate.

There is one thing you can be certain of. When the 2008 campaign rolls around I will work tirelessly to defeat Graham. I will volunteer my time for the most conservative candidate in the primaries and I’ll go door to door telling everyone who will listen why Graham isn’t worthy of their vote. Should he win the nomination anyway, or should he be unopposed, I will work for whom ever his opponent is, even a Democrat. I’d rather have a Democrat representing this state than a snake in the grass RINO out to serve no one but himself.

Lindsey Graham has got to go and I will do everything in my power to ensure he is a one term Senator. He is an embarrassment to the State of South Carolina and to this country.

UPDATE:

Powerline Blog notes that Graham was interviewed by Hugh Hewitt where he promised to vote to allow judicial nominee William Haynes, General Counsel of the Department of Defense, to be released to the Senate floor for a full vote up or down. Graham said, however, that he would vote against Haynes on the Senate floor. Says Powerline:

So, if Graham can be trusted, I think that means that after a delay of several years, Haynes’s nomination will finally receive a Senate vote. That’s a victory of sorts, I guess.

Sounds to me like the folks at Powerline don’t trust Graham any more than I do!

Watch for a new section on this blog in the near future dedicated to informing you about just what Lindsey Graham is doing why he should be defeated.
